Partnership Has Its Privileges

Education, Teacher Professional Development

True or False?

—A teacher partnership with Litzsinger Road Ecology Center is all about the free field trips…

Students around a pondFalse! If the partnership was solely about class visits to LREC, then our calendar would be jammed and few teacher partners would be teaching outdoors on a regular basis. No teacher can become an effective outdoor educator like that!

A LREC Teacher Partnership is about you

  • developing your outdoor teaching and learning skills,
  • integrating outdoor learning experiences into your current units of study,
  • making effective educational use of your schoolyard and surrounding community,
  • participating in a school/community place-based education team, and
  • becoming an active participant in a dynamic community of outdoor place-based educators!

Here are the opportunities that you have, as a teacher partner, to do that:

  1. Students playing in schoolyardRead, and contribute to, our monthly newsletter.
  2. Attend monthly teacher enrichments, 4–5:30 p.m., at various schools (see announcements).
  3. Invite your LREC contact to participate in an outdoor learning activity at your school.
  4. Enroll in one of our advanced programs: Sustainable Schoolyards or Place-based Learning (info here).
  5. Attend next year’s teacher conference, January 24, 2018.
