The Great Depression, The Dust Bowl and Prairie Plants

A recent walk down the hallways at Covenant Christian School was a bit startling. Long rolls of white paper, about three feet wide, had been laid out and students, armed with computers, rulers, drawing pencils and other art supplies, were stationed on and alongside the paper. These rolls, each more than 25 feet in length, were a puzzle. What were these sixth grade students doing and how could it possibly be linked to the school’s curriculum?

First Phenology Walk of 2018

Yesterday the volunteers in the weekly plant study group applied some of what we’ve been learning to the field. Silver maple, hazelnut, snowdrops, and of course witch hazel were among the first plants to bloom this year, initiating the first phenology monitoring walk of 2018.

2018 LREC Teacher Conference

Special thanks to all of the presenters and participants at our Teacher Conference on January 24!!! What a pleasure to spend the day with so many talented and innovative individuals. Teachers met up with old friends and forged new connections as they listened and learned from their peers.
