Teacher Partnerships
What is the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center Teacher Partnership Program?
The mission of the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC) Teacher Partnership Program is to equip teachers to become effective outdoor place-based educators; using outdoor spaces to enhance learning, investigate and develop schoolyards as habitats and engage with their community.
New LREC teacher partnerships begin with Effective Outdoor Learning, a one-year program consisting of a 2-day summer workshop, and the following school-year components:
- Monthly schoolyard learning activities
- Seasonal class visits to LREC
- Seasonal professional development meetings
Teachers who complete Effective Outdoor Learning have the opportunity to become an active participant in a dynamic community of outdoor place-based educators with continued access to LREC resources.
Returning LREC teacher partners are eligible to participate in the following training programs:
- Sustainable Schoolyards—Develop a schoolyard natural habitat.
- Place-based Learning—Design and implement curriculum based on what is nearby: the neighborhood and region.
