Set Them Up for Success!

Kids playing in snowWe live in Missouri which means winter temps can dip well below 20 and that’s not factoring in the wind chill. As teachers trained in EOL we want to set our students up for success by teaching them and their parents how to dress them (and themselves) for the weather. One doesn’t have to have an REI budget to make this happen-layers are key and can often be found at thrift stores or in our own closets. After spending a below 30 degree morning with some enthusiastic pre-K students who were distracted by the cold I decided we could all use a refresher on how to dress for these temps. Our summers can be so blazing hot that sometimes it takes us a while to recall how to dress for the outdoors during Missouri winters.

A simple internet search produced some handy charts that teachers can print out and give to parents and students when preparing for an outdoor class at school or visit to LREC, or maybe some of your students walk to and from school or do not have adequate heating at home.  Whatever the case I think we will all benefit from these charts:
